Raymond McMillan is a cross-border real estate and mortgage finance advisor with more than three decades of experience spanning Canada, the United States, and the Caribbean, and a proud graduate of the University of Guyana. His path back to Guyana began, in a sense, before he ever left it: in 1989, as a University of Guyana student completing a degree in Geography and Economics with a focus on urban studies and demography, he wrote his thesis on low- and middle-income housing in Georgetown — an early inquiry into who gets to own property, and what that means for a community’s future.
That question shaped the career that followed. After migrating to Canada in 1989, Raymond built his expertise through roles at Standard Life, RBC, and CIBC, developing a strong foundation in investment advising, personal lending, and mortgage underwriting. In 1999, he founded The McMillan Group Inc. and moved into full-time mortgage brokerage, going on to fund hundreds of millions of dollars in residential mortgages and establishing himself as one of the Greater Toronto Area’s most decorated and top-producing mortgage professionals. Today, The McMillan Group operates as a cross-border real estate and financial advisory firm supporting clients in Canada, the United States, and the Caribbean, with a particular focus on Guyanese and Caribbean diaspora communities in New York, Toronto, and London.
Raymond’s commitment to community extends beyond individual transactions. In 2017, he co-founded the Afro-Caribbean Business Network (ACBN), a Canadian nonprofit that provides networking, mentorship, funding access, and business development support to Black entrepreneurs — work grounded in his belief that lasting impact comes from building infrastructure for a community, not from any single deal.
In 2025, Raymond brought that same mission home, co-founding PrimePath Mortgage & Financing Solutions Inc., headquartered in Georgetown, Guyana. PrimePath provides mortgage and financing guidance to Guyanese homebuyers, builders, and investors, both within Guyana and across the global diaspora. He remains an active voice on Guyana’s housing and investment landscape, writing on issues such as the country’s expanded mortgage interest tax relief for first-time homeowners and speaking on diaspora investment, including a recent presentation on “The Guyana Opportunity” at the Caribbean Investment Showcase (2026) in Toronto.
Born in the United Kingdom to Guyanese and Grenadian parents and raised and educated in Guyana before migrating to Canada in 1989, Raymond brings a rare combination of credentials: the perspective of a UG graduate whose academic training in urban studies still informs his professional judgment, more than twenty-five years of financial services leadership, a demonstrated record of building institutions that serve communities, and an active, ongoing stake in Guyana’s housing and economic development. He currently divides his time between Jacksonville, Florida and Georgetown, Guyana.
